Dear Pam

I did some research for my village a couple of years ago about Sir Clements
Markham, the man who sent SCOTT & OATES on that last expedition in 1912. I
received lots of information from the Scott Polar Research Institute,
University of Cambridge, Lensfield Road, Cambridge
CB2 1ER U.K. from the information assistant Shirley Satwell. The telephone

I also met an American gentleman in the village called Robert Stephenson who
is part of a group called something like The Antarctic Circle. They study
everything to do with Arctic/Antarctic exploration. His e-mail is


There was a big write-up in Who's Who, on Sir Clements, so maybe there will
be one on Oates too, if anyone has access to one for the right period.
