February. During the past week the weather has been most inclement. On Monday we were visited with a hurricane of wind and snow, on Thursday the roads between Cropton and Pickering were completely blocked up, the drifts being level from hedge top to hedge top and the traffic completely stopped, the frost being most severe.

Fiery Meteor. On Sunday night last, between 7 and 8 o'clock, a large meteor passed over Pickering from a south easterly direction to the north west and would appear to have exploded from the great illumination for the moment it caused. It is calculated to be nearly 50 years since a similar fiery meteor has been noticed in this neighbourhood.
