Lydia,
I have a couple of suggestions for the bifocal problem, as I went through
the same thing myself a few years ago. The first thing that helped was
using progressive lenses rather than bifocals. That made it much easier for
me to get the mid-range vision needed to use a desktop computer comfortably.
Some people I know (who can't tolerate progressive lenses) have a separate
pair of glasses just for using the computer.
The second thing I discovered quite by accident - using a laptop. Sitting
sideways on the couch with my feet up and the laptop actually on my lap is
the most comfortable way for me to use a computer. The screen, though
smaller, is low enough to make it much easier to see and having my feet up
is much easier on my arthritic knees.
