Hi Listers:

Found some of the following in May 2000 in Hagerstown, MD Library re some of the early Yeakle/Yeakel families of that area. Sorry that these are just "tidbits" and sometimes no dates available.

1) C Kate Yeakle, m in 1878 to Charles Edward Thomas, son of Charles Edward Thomas, b 1825.

2) From Deaths of 1851: Jacob Yeakel, died the 22nd instant of his 42nd year, leaving wife and 4 children (From November 19, 1851 newspaper).

Susan A. Yeakle, the youngest daughter of Sarah A. and Jacob Yeakle, age 18 months, died 8 of May, 1851 (From May 14th newspaper).

3) Casper Close and Ann Yeakel, married September 10, 1844, Witnessed by William Gessner and Elizabeth Yeakel

And from book of Washington Co., MD:

1) "Jacob YEAKLE, a tinner by trade bought a lot at the corner of Antietam and Walnut Streets, upon which they erected a small brick house."

2) Samuel YEAKLE, Board of Directors, Bank of Hagerstown, 1835.

3) William A. Yeakel, deacon, St. John's Reformed Congregational Church, Clear Spring, MD.

4) John Burkhart Houser of Cavetown MD, married Rebecca YEAKLE who died January 12, 1874. Their children:

Rebecca married Henry Dayoff
Samuel married Caroline Burkhart
Susanna married Benjamin Ridenour, and lived at Mt. Morris, Illinois.
Julia, married Oliver Beard and lived in Mt. Morris, IL.
John J. married Charlotte Fox

(These YEAKLES probably related to David and Elizabeth Boward Yeakel who resided in Hagerstown, then moving to Mt. Morris, IL. David died in 1869, and his wife, Elizabeth, in 1882, in Mt. Morris, IL)

5) Susan Yeakle who married Solomon Helser. Susan Yeakle died in 1887 age 82, and a native of Franklin Co., PA. The children of Susan Yeakel and Solomon Helser were:

David P. Helser married Annie Martin
John
George, died age 6
Lydia married 1) Martin Bregunier 2) John Baum
Lizzie married John Cook
Henry

Many of these Hagerstown, MD Yeakle's are probably related to my Yeakle family who moved to the area in 1770. My ggg grandfather, Christian was born in Hagerstown, MD in 1770. He had brothers John, Jacob, and possibly George, a sister, Catherine "Polly", and another sister, born in York PA, Maria Catherine, b. 1767. All came to MD in 1770. Gggg grandparents were Michael and Caroline Catherine/Jaeckel.

Would like to hear from all who might have family in Maryland.

Nancy Yeakel Bender
