Subject: [Mineral Co WV] DYE - DAVIS Family Photograph
Date: Sun, 10 Aug 2008 09:59:06 -0700

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sue DYE which was taken at the Wilde &
Son's Studio in Piedmont, West Virginia. The photograph appears to have
been taken in the 1870's with Sue likely in her teens or 20's at the time.
In addition to her name, someone has written "Aunt" on the back of the
photograph. Based on limited research I have been able to gather the
following information:

Susan Eudora DAVIS was b. 8 Jan 1859 in VA to parents David DAVIS (b. 16 Oct
1821 in New Creek, VA) and Susan Vanse WILSON (b. 9 May 1825 in MD). Susan
married Thornton Cass DYE (b. 7 Jan 1852 in VA) on 26 Feb 1878 in Piedmont,
WV and together they had 5 children including, Herbert Alroy; Wilbur Wilson;
Robert Cass; Thornton Charles; and David Vanse DYE, all born between 1879
and 1891 in Mineral County, WV. Susan died 1 Apr 1909 in Keyser, WV.

Census records provide the following information:

1880 census of New Creek, WV:

Thornton C. DYE, age 28, born WV, a Merchant, parents born WV/VA
Susan E. DYE, wife, age 21, born WV, Keeping House, parents born WV/MD
Herbert A. DYE, son, age 1, born WV
Maggie SWANGER, other, age 11, born WV, a Servant, parents born PA/WV

1900 census of New Creek District, WV:

Thornton C. DYE, age 48, born Jan 1852, married 22 years, born WV, parents
born WV, a Merchant
Susan E. DYE, wife, age 41, born Jan 1859, married 22 years, 5 children/5
living, born WV, parents born WV
Herbert A. DYE, son, age 21, born Feb 1879, born WV, a Salesman
Wilbur W. DYE, son, age 19, born Feb 1881, born WV, a Salesman
Robert C. DYE, son, age 17, born Mar 1883, born WV
Thornton C. DYE, son, age 14, born Jun 1885, born WV
David V. DYE, son, age 8, born Sept 1892, born WV
Maggia SWANGER, servant, age 30, born Jun 1870, born WV, parents born PA, a
Servant

I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be
returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this
family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.

Thanks,
Shelley
