Cornell University has put the entire War of the Rebellion on the internet. It includes scanned images of reports, correspondence, etc. sent to the War Dept. during the Civil War - both Union and Confederate accounts. It is in chronological order. Go to this website
http://moa.cit.cornell.edu/MOA/MOA-JOURNALS2/WARO.html
and go to Volume 4 ( Series 4 Volume 4* Government Printing Office, 1901, 1304 pages ), the last volume, for an index. It is an alphabetical index. Roman numeral that follows surname, is to the Series, the Arabic number, is the Volume. I think the last volumes of each series has an index, too.
If you can figure out follow the methods of indexing, you might find an ancestor. To look at the WRIGHTs go to "IMAGE 1139" which is where the Wrights begin in the index of Vol 4.
Have fun!
