1. In the following Halifax County VA Deed Book 7, #32, p 72. 13 Feb.
1768, is a reference to "Wooding's wife" which appears to be Elizabeth Hill:
Robert Wooding of Halifax Co. to Daniel McCallum of Chesterfield Co., for
250 pounds, negroes Jack, Tom, and Isaac, mulatto girl Moll, also Wooding's
wife's right of dower in slaves belonging to the estate of James Hill,
dec'd, viz., Tom, Cyrus, Lucy, Jenny, George, Peter, Gloster, Mary, Rose,
Millie, Betty, Jenny a girl, Aggy, and Patt, forty head of black cattle, 25
sheep; also a sorrel horse called Randolph, bay stallion called Brandy and
sundry mares and colts, on condition sd Wooding pay 250 pounds by 1 April
1769, then everything mentioned above shall be void, and until default is
made sd Wooding shall enjoy his negroes, cattle, sheep and horses.
signed: R Wooding
witnesses: John Johnston, John Calder
Recorded 18 Feb. 1768

(And, eventhough she is refered to as "Wooding's wife" here, having "dower
rights" to the "estate of James Hill. dec'd" Elizabeth Hill (if indeed it is
Elizabeth Hill that is referred to in this record) doesn't use that name or
title in the subsequent court records. Robert Wooding's wife was Mary
Marable and there is no indication that she had a previous marriage. In the
5 June 1753 Lunenburg Co. VA marriage record of Robert Wooding and Mary
Marrable, Mary is the daughter of William Marrable. bs)

2. Halifax County VA Deed Book 7, #194, p430. 10 Aug 1769. Robert
Wooding, Gent. of Halifax County to Elizabeth Hill of same, for 10 pounds,
74 1/2 acres, +/-, on b.s. of Wynns Cr., beg. at Alman Gwin's cor. pines,
new lines north to a sycamore on the upper side of sd creek, thence crossing
the creek to the mouth of Bear Br. as it meanders to Gwin's line, Camp's
line south, James Hill's line, sd Wooding's old line.... All woods, etc.
signed: R Wooding
Witnesses: none
Recorded 17 Aug. 1769

From "Halifax County Virginia Deed Book 7 1767-1770, Marian Dodson Chiarito

3. Deed Book 9, p 34 18 March 1773, When Robert Wooding gave Hannah to
Suckey Hill, Suckey was said to be the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth
Hill.

Halifax County Marriage Record, 27 December 1790 Peter Field Kent and
Elizabeth Hill, the bride is "dau. of Elizabeth Hill".

If the 1768 reference to Wooding's wife is a reference to Elizabeth Hill,
she doesn't in these future records (1769, 1773, 1790 and in her will
in1797) use the title of wife or the name of Wooding.
