I research this family, which came from N. Ireland (aka Cartney,and variant spellings. They came first to Philadelphia, then to Middleburg, and by 1840 were prolific in Elk Twp.,Clarion Co., with relatives in nearby places, like Bradford,New Castle, etc. Many were carpenters and builders. For some time there was a regular journal "Courtney Chronicles," which contains many lines, even going back to the Dukes of Cornwall named Courtenay, and the Crusades. They claim an aristocratic French connection.
