Was the photo taken later in life, when he was an old man? I have
pictures of two grandfathers (one a great-great and the other a
great-great-great) who were both with the 12th Wisconsin Infantry. They
are both wearing similar "fuzzy" medals in photos taken when they were
old men. Theirs are some sort of medal that was given to them at a Grand
Army of the Republic event.
