How does your SCHMIEGEL relate to Monroe County, WI? Perhaps she has an alternate spelling from this? It is so unusual, I am posting all that were found on-line up until 1910 then Wisconsin only...

I believe this surname (SCHMECKEL) is in Monroe County. Do you have more details? I think a Schmeckel family might be in a book on Monroe County.

I am struggling with finding out anything about my great-great grandmother, Marianna Schmiegel, from Posen, Poland, possibly Sieroslaf; she appears to have had no known extended family ever on this planet.

Her husband was Michael Popenfus. Popenfuses were in New York, and some Schmiegels were also in New York. The family came in the mid-1880s.

Would the Schmeckel family have been in Tomah?
