Keep up the great work...those of us with female Wickiser (gggrandmothers)
connection solute you!!

Warmly,

Chuck Campbell

P.S. Here is my connection to the Wickiser Family:

1. CONRAD1 WICKIZER was born Abt. 1740 in Germany, and died 24 Jun 1802 in
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. He married ROSINA Abt. 1764 in
Tryon/Montgomery Co., New York.

Notes for CONRAD WICKIZER:
His origins are from the Baden Wurttemburg region. A small village called
Mockmuhl, located on the Jagst river. Mockmuhl is approximately 50 miles or
so east of Heidelberg, Germany.

According to references from the International Genealogical Index, his birth
date is listed as 1742 and his father's name is listed as Andreas, but this
has not yet been proven.

Conrad Wickiser, Sr first appears in 1765 at his daughter Anna Margaretha's
christening at the church of Stone Arabia in Palatine, NY. From there, he
probably moved south about 1770 to Wilkes-Barre, PA.1

First appears as original grantee at Wilkes-Barre, PA in 17721

2. ANDREW2 WICKIZER (CONRAD1) was born 10 Sep 1769 in Tryon/Montgomery
County, New York, and died 21 Feb 1844 in Greenfield Twp, Fairfield County,
Ohio. He married MARY "POLLY" BENNETT, daughter of ASA BENNETT and LYDIA.

Canaan, Ohio4, daughter of JACOB GEYER and RUTH COOPER. She was born 23 Jan
1834 in Canaan Township, Ohio5, and died 24 Sep 1908 in Canaan Twp., Morrow
County, Ohio6.

Notes for GEORGE MELVIN RICE:
GEORGE RICE, farmer; P. O., Caledonia. Jacob Rice, the father of George,
figures very conspicuously in the history of this township, being one of the
first settlers, and to give the history of Canaan Township without relating
the experience of Jacob Rice, would be similar to seeing the play of Hamlet
with the Prince of Denmark left out. John was born Aug. 27, 1826, on the
east ? of S. E. 1/4 of Section 7, in Canaan Tp. There were thirteen
children, of which number, George M. ranked midway, being the seventh in
order. At the usual age, George M. embarked for himself, and like many
others of his time, had nothing but his hands to help him. At the age of 23,
he was swept westward by the tidal wave of '49, remaining in the mines at
Nevada about two years. Soon after his return home he married Elizabeth Ann
Geyer, who was born in Muskingum Co., Ohio, in 1833, being the eldest
daughter of Jacob an and Ruth Geyer, who were among the staunch families in
the township, and were located on Section 9. Since 1876. her father's
remains have reposed in Canaan Cemetery; his wife yet survives him. Since
the marriage of our subject, he has resided on the farm he now owns; he
first lived several years in a cabin southwest of his present residence.
Five children are the fruits of their union-Zeralda, now Mrs. J. Campbell;
James B., Arminda J., now Mrs. G. W. Vallentine; George M. and Anna. His
first purchase of land was 160 acres for $13.00 per acre, upon his return
from California; he has now 302 acres, and made the greater part of the
improvements. Is not a member of any church or order; is a Universalist in
principle.

Subject: [Wickizer/Wickiser] Wickizer Surname DNA Project Report #3

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.

Classification: Query

Message Board Post:

Dear Cousins,

We have a new result to report. The Y-chromosome DNA numbers of a descendant
of Isaac Wickizer, Conrad Sr.'s fifth son, have matched those of the other
three participants in the Project. This means that three branches of the
family have now been genetically linked to a common ancestor.

We also received the results of a 37-marker test for a descendant of Andrew
Wickizer. This now gives us enough information to search for possible
related families named Weckesser, Werkheiser, Wacaster, and Waycaster. We
believe that some of these lines have to be connected to ours.

We're also looking for direct-male line offshoots of Conrad Sr.'s sons,
Abraham Wickiser and Jacob Wickizer, to volunteer for the Project.

The Y-chromosome numbers for the Wickizer family are relatively uncommon. If
we do get a match with someone from one of these similar-sounding surnames,
there'll be no question that we share a common male ancestor with that line.

Please check our website, www.millefleurs.tv (under the "Wickizer Genealogy"
link) for the most recent updated information on the Project.

All best:

Mary Wickizer Burgess
Prof. Michael Burgess
