The Whatcom County Poor Farm was located at the southeast corner of Northwest and Smith Road on the eastern outskirts of Ferndale. The building is in use as an annex for county offices, housing the Whatcom County Planning Department. Most of the farming grounds have been converted into several soccer fields.

In 2008, there were discussions about the McMenamin brothers converting/expanding the building into a mini-brewery/hotel complex. The Bellingham Herald published an article in May 2008 about this idea, with a bit of history. See http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.washington.counties.whatcom/2630/mb.ashx

I also believe there is additional information in the 1926 "History of Whatcom County" by Lottie Roeder Roth.
