Karen:
Thank you for the offer of assistance for lookups.  My name is John H. Hill.  I have been attempting to locate specific information concerning my great great great grandfather, Robert Hill.  He was the son of Revolutionary War Colonel, William Hill, of South Carolina (at the battle of Hill Iron Works).  Documentation I have from several sources indicates two of the four sons of Colonel William Hill fought in the War of 1812.  William Jr fought with Andrew Jackson in the south.  Information in some historical records indicate Robert Hill served in the War of 1812.

Here is the reference I have found:  "Robert Hill. Born c.1769-70. Died after May 21, 1814. He was adjutant- general to Gen. Arthur Hayne in the War of 1812. He was known in York District as “Colonel” Robert Hill. Unmarried."

My records indicate he died in Virginia, had one son, James (my great great grandfather), who settled in Ohio (presumably on a land grant).  Robert's wife was Sarah White of Maryland.  I have looked at several records from the War of 1812 but have not been able to locate him.  I have theorized if he could have been killed in action in Virginia and left a widow and son to travel west to Ohio to claim a land grant.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
John H. Hill

I have the book Virginia Soldiers in the United States Army, 1800-1815,
compiled by Stuart Lee Butler, Iberian Publishing Company, Athens, GA, 1986.
I will do look ups if anyone is interested.  Send me your ancestor's name
and any pertinent information and I'll see if I can find him in it.
