The Penn Archives, Sixth Series, Volumes VII thru X list many James Anderson. I only saw the rank of private for those listed.
You can possibly search these and the Pension Index at your local library. Footnote.com has the Penn Archives on the web as well.

Margaret ANDERSON died ten years before her husband, so she did not apply
for a widow's pension. James ANDERSON (1791-1856) died in Madison Twp.,
Highland Co., OH., and is buried in the Old Burying Ground Cemetery there.
