Subject: [WAROF1812] Pension Index Lookup, PLEASE!
Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2008 09:12:31 -0700
>If anyone has acces to the War of 1812 Pension Index, by Virgil White, I
>would be very grateful for a lookup for the following person:
> James ANDERSON (1791-1856), b. in PA.; served in the War of 1812 and
> achieved the rank of Captain. I'm not sure what county he was from in PA.
> However, Highland Co., OH histories claim he is the son of an elder James
> ANDERSON (1763-1850) from Chester Co., PA.. I have not been able to
> document this relationship. It seems unlikely, as the elder James married
> in 1801, and I've not been able to find a previous marriage for him.
> Around 1818-1820, James (b, 1791) married Margaret BROOKS, also born in
> PA., and they migrated to Highland Co., OH, where they raised four
> children. The elder James ANDERSON migrated to the same county around
> the same time. His Rev. War pension application states that he had twelve
> children, but only a son, Philip, is mentioned.
Margaret ANDERSON died ten years before her husband, so she did not apply
for a widow's pension. James ANDERSON (1791-1856) died in Madison Twp.,
Highland Co., OH., and is buried in the Old Burying Ground Cemetery there.
> Thank you in advance to anyone who can help, as I've reached a brick wall,
> and need to apply for these pension papers to find out what county in PA.
> James was from.
