Hi Pickard,

I share your feeling that Dedications should be Right - and have also
struggled unsuccessfully to find Definitive Answers...

What *may* be 'the bible' of Church Dedications - Frances Arnold-Forster's
"Studies in Church Dedications" Vol 3; 1899, Appendix 3, page 359 - shows
'Monks-Kirby' as one of a number of churches dedicated to St Edith [of
Polesworth - not to be confused with St Edith of Wilton], which sounds fine.
Except that both Tamworth and Amington are included there under the spelling
St Editha.

WAR Records Office would seem to state it's St Editha - while the Census
Reports on Ecclesiastical Parishes 1891-1911 consistently show St Edith.

What I'd like to do is see what the WAR VCH has to say on the matter - but
following my Crash back in December I lost my 'Favourites', and can no
longer find the site that includes this online... Any help from Out There to
restore it would be welcomed!

I'd add that the 1871 and 1881 Census Reports state that "No complete list
of the Ecclesiastical Sub-divisions of the Country is published by the
Ecclesiastical Commissioners, the Diocesan Registrars, or any other
Authority ... "

Maybe the 1851 Census of Religious Worship might give 'an' answer - as
perhaps might a selection from Crockfords Clerical Directories - but
contradictory spellings exist, while others would seem to have marginally
changed their names over the years, adding or deleting a single letter...

You may well have strayed into a minefield here :-)

Gus
