If you have had difficulty locating a town in Central/Eastern Europe, there
is an online feature hosted by the Jewish GenWeb site called a ShtetlSeeker.
It uses a Soundex kind of indexing to locate all towns of similar sounding
names. Most listings in the index use the current name for the town (but if
you have coordinates, you might could find out what the new name of the town
became), and Polish/Russian spellings sometimes are different than what you
think or else are transliterated a little differently.

You can also do a search by Latitude and Longitude to locate towns in close
proximity.

And you can limit your search by country.

Here is the web address:

The Town Search is at this address:
http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm

There are also links to find an actual map on Mapquest of each town using
the latitude & longitude coordinates.
