> Passed away Monday morning, April 28, 2003 at her home. Mary was born in
Kalamazoo, September 20, 1930, the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Poulsen)
Smith. She was a 1947 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High, a member of
Oakwood United Methodist Church and the Oakwood Neighborhood Association,
and was Concession Manager at K-Wings Stadium. Mary enjoyed gardening,
crossword puzzles and garage sales. She married Walter E. "Bud" Hale in
1971, and he preceded her in death on August 5, 1977. She was also preceded
in death by a grandson. Surviving are six sons, Matthew Talon of Hardwood,
MI, Roger Van Avery of Sturgis, Walter E. Hale of Kalamazoo, Herbert Hale of
Los Angeles, CA, Evan Hale of Kalamazoo, and Carl Hale of Columbus, OH; five
daughters, Julia Ross of Ft. Worth, TX, Diana Edmunds of Mattawan, Althea
"Cookie" Mezo of Galesburg, Kim Mae of Phoenix, AZ, and Paula Rodriguez of
Parchment; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjory
Christensen of Springfield!

Friends will be received at the funeral home beginning Wednesday afternoon,
where services will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. Mel
Raab, of Cornerstone Pentecostal Church, officiating. Interment in Riverside
Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Oakwood
Neighborhood Association, Senior Services, or Meals on Wheels. The family
will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Wednesday evening.
