It was with something amounting to despair that I found this
last night.
12.1749 #48 Poughkeepsie Dutch Reformed Church Marriages
Wilhemus Duystcher j.m. born Poughkeepsie, living Fishkill
Mari Jekoks j.d. born Poughkeepsie, living Poughkeepsie
Here is a Mari Jekoks, born around 1730 in Poughkeepsie, and who
on earth could she have been born to but Francis, Sr. and
Caecilia. But the very next month banns were posted in the same
church for the marriage of Mary Jaycocks, the daughter of
Francis, Sr. and Caecilia to Mc Gregory Van Every. I have
studied this family with truly exceptional guidance, and I think
I understnad them well.
Unless poor Wilhemus dropped dead on the way home from the
church, this looked as if there were TWO women of the same name
and age, born in the same place, married to two different men.
I did then notice that at the posting of banns for the marriage
of Mary Jaycocks to Mc Gregory Van Every he is listed as a j.m.
but she is NOT listed as a j.d..
Increasing my despair was the fact that there is a vexing gap in
the Poughkeepsie records from 1745 to 1764 making it nearly
impossible to determine the truth of this matter.
I was able to find only one Willem De Duijtser born ca 1725, and
he was married to Elizabeth Brevoort somewhere, but not in
Poughkeepsie.
So I joined the DUTCHER list, and posted a question. And just
now received the answer.
<<Sherilyn,
In 1910, Walter Kenneth Griffin, an oft-quoted Dutcher
researcher, had this to say about Willem Dutcher: "Probably the
William licensed to m. Mary Jacobs, Dec. 21, 1749; the license
being suspended."
This William was the son of David Dutcher and Elizabeth
Davenport. He was b. in Poughkeepsie 4 Nov 1725. He married
Elizabeth Brevoort in 1751 at
Fishkill. They had two children, David and Nancy. William died
before 1771.
I hope that helps.
Sharon
P.S. Now if anyone knows what became of William's grandchildren,
I'd love to know!>>
SO, another chapter in the story of Mary Jaycocks Mc Gregory
revealed.

Sharilyn
