Ok... I looked closely at the 1820 census.. with the Akers in Montgomery Va and found that 8 men with the last name of Akers in Montgomery had sons under the age of 10. Looking for Brooks being age 8, you have these following names of men which one is most likley your Brooks's father.

Akers:
Bird
Adam
William Jr.
William Jr. ( no lie.. two Wm. Jr's listed)
Jonathan
Greenbury
Jacob
Joseph
