I am researching the Edwards family of Lunenburg and Halifax
Counties and have the following information to offer.

Montigh Edwards was born on November 18, 1850 in Halifax
Co., Va. and died on January 28, 1922 in Lunenburg Co., Va.
He was married to Sallie Carter, born April 19, 1857 in >unk.<
and died on June 9, 1931 in Lunenburg Co., Va. They are
buried in a private cemetery on Rt. 40 in Lunenburg Co., Va.

Montigh Edwards' parents were James M. Edwards born 1799 in
Halifax Co., Va. and Elvira Boley born October 7, 1807; died
September 30, 1857 in Halifax Co., Va. They were married on
January 15, 1829 in Caswell Co., N.C.

The parents of James Edwards were John Edwards, Sr., born
about 1799 in Halifax Co., Va.; died about November 1848 and
Martha >unk.<.

The parents of John Edwards, Sr. were William Edwards born
about 1721 and died September 1780 in Halifax Co., Va. and
Elizabeth >unk.<.
(Some have assumed that her maiden name was Barksdale based
on a record showing where a William Edwards married Elizabeth
Barksdale on February 19, 1762 in Lunenburg Co., Va. In conflict
with this assumption are records showing the first child born of the
marriage between the parents of John Edwards, Sr. (William Edwards
and Elizabeth >unk.<) was William Edwards, Jr., born in 1760, two
years before the William Edwards and Elizabeth Barksdale marriage.
Without further evidence, it is difficult to draw this assumption.)

Appreciate information concerning anything remotely connected
to these Edwards. Montigh Edwards' sister, Minerva Edwards,
born February 28, 1836 in Halifax Co., Va.; died March 4, 1905
was my great grandmother. She married Patrick P. Ryan on
July 17, 1855 and is buried at Mt. Cavalry Cemetery in Richmond,
Va.
