1887 in Appomattox County, bu. Harvey Family Cemetery, Evergreen,
Va., 0.5 miles S. on Rt. 630. Was a farmer; lived Appomattox
County;

County, Va., d. 27 Jun 1874, Appomattox County, bu. Harvey
Family
Cemetery, Evergreen. Farmer - in 1845 owned farm of 300 acres on
Cub Creek; Residence - Campbell County, (after 1845, Appomattox
County); member Wesley Chapel Methodist Church.
Elizabeth (Betty) Johnson, b. 1795, d. 26 Jul 1877, Appomattox County,
burial and church same as John. Married 16 Aug 1819, Campbell
County, Va.
Albert's G - Grandparents:
Capt. Thomas Harvey, Sr., b. 22 Mar 1762, Lunenburg County, Va. (after
1754, Bedford County), d. 12 Mar 1837 on Cub Creek, Campbell

Family Cemetery off Rt. 675, Appomattox County). Served in the War
of the Revolution; enlisted 1 May 1780 at New London, Va., under
Capt. Thomas Leftwich; he apparently took the place of his father;
he
was also drafted Aug 1781 for 3 months, marching directly to
Yorktown
and was there until the surrender. Pension application S-5474
made
14 Aug1832. Pension was $75.00 arrears plus $30.00 per year
thereafter. Attended Wesley Chapel Methodist Church; residence -
Campbell County on 1,573 acres on Cub Creek (after 1845,

Capt. William Harvey, Sr., 48, b. 1732, d. Bet. 16 Nov 1809 - 13 Dec
1813 in Campbell County, Va., bu. probably Harvey Family Cemetery
on Rt. 675, now Appomattox County, Va. Served in the Charlotte
County Militia; C.O.B. for March Term Court1779, William Harvey is
recommended for Captain in the Militia; C.O.B. for the December
Term1780, he resigns his captaincy. Name suffix "48" refers to
his first
land grant being for 48 acres (there was a land grant in Lunenburg
County, Va., 3 Jul 1753 for 48 acres on both sides of Buffalo
Creek, a
branch of the Otter River [this area became Bedford County in
1754])
Note on name suffixes - The Harvey family used the same names
over
and over. One Harvey researcher says that in the next four
generations after Thomas Harvey, TH, he counted 34 William
Harveys, 17 Thomas Harveys and 6 Isham Harveys. When two or
more persons with the same name lived in an area people often
tacked
on a suffix in order to tell them apart. Some of such
suffixes were:
48 First land grand was for 48 acres (I take this
to be
somewhat of a slap at William for the
land grant being so
small)
BS Black Smith (owned and ran a blacksmith shop)
GC Goose Creek (born on Goose Creek)
SI Son of Isham
BW Butterwood Creek (lived on Butterwood Creek)
SM Saw Mill (owned and operated a sawmill)
Senior and Junior were also used for this same purpose even
though
they were not father and son. The older of the two would be
called
"Senior" and the younger "Junior."
William was a farmer and was an original member, in 1771, of the Cub
Creek Baptist Church; residences - Lunenburg, Bedford, Charlotte and
Campbell Counties, Va., on Cub Creek in the area that became
Appomattox County after 1845. Will made 16 Nov 1809, Campbell
County Will Book 3, page 263; probated 13 Dec 1813, Campbell
County; Division of Estate 9 Oct 1815, Campbell County Will Book 3,
