FAIRHAVEN, MA - Henry B. McGowan, age 92, of Fairhaven, died February 13,
2009, at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Fairhaven, son of the late Thomas A. and Flora (Lewis) McGowan, he
was a graduate of Fairhaven High School.

Henry was a star athlete playing for the basketball team and was active in
track, setting the Massachusetts record for high jump.

Musically inclined, he sang in quartets and was a soloist at the Unitarian
Memorial Church for 35 years.

Henry retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a quality control
inspector.

He is survived by his daughter, Jane McGowan; and son, David McGowan; and
was brother of the late Thomas, Harold and Lawrence McGowan.

Remembrances may be made in his name to Alden Court Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center, Attn: Brad Turini, Activities Dept., 389 Alden Road,
Fairhaven 02719.

Private arrangements are with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New
Bedford.
