Joe Lee Barton

(07/31/2003) Joe Lee Barton, age 62, of Dale, Texas, passed away on Monday,
July 28, 2003, at his home where he had resided for several years. He was
born September 24, 1940, in Red Rock, Texas, to Joe Barton and Elizabeth
(Wilhelm) Barton. He completed six months training in the U.S. Army and
served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was employed 34 years by the
Texas Department of Transportation and retired September 30, 1993, as a sign
shop supervisor. He loved country and western music and played with several
local bands. A Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, July 31,
2003, at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home, Bastrop. The Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 1, 2003, at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Rockne. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart
Cemetery, Rockne. His parents, a son, David Barton, and a brother, Paul
Hefner preceded him in death. Survivors include: brothers, Herman and wife,
Bernadette Barton of Rockne, Matthew James and wife, Nancy Barton of Austin,
and Albert Clinton Hefner of Deptford, New Jersey; sisters, Shirley Smith of
Smithville and Amy C. and husband, David Dunlap of Austin.
