Sadness overspread the village Sunday afternoon when word came that Matt
Edwards had been drowned at Sandy Beach, Indian Lake Park, Indian Lake,
Ohio.(Lewistown Reservoir.) The fatal accident occurred about 4 o'clock.
Mr. Edwards and Guy Nevers went to the park early Sunday morning for a day's
outing. The victim had been enjoying the various attractions about the lake,
and when he met his death, he was enjoying the toboggan slide. He remarked
to his friend htat he would make one more trip, then dress to go home.
It is said that he was heard to call for help, but as the descent is rapid
and exciting, it is a common cry. No attention was paid to him. As he struck
the water, he called the second time for help. As he disappeared beneath the
surface, onlookers became alarmed.
L. D. Roberts, of Bellefontaine, dived, and located the body in about ten
minutes. A pulmotor was used, but to no avail. C. L. Rexer went after the
body, and prepared it for burial. No water was found on the lungs, and it is
believed a sudden attack of heart trouble caused death. The body was brought
here to the home of C. M. Edwards, father of the deceased. Funeral services
were held Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. H. J. Adams, of Middletown,
pastor of the Primitive Baptist Church.
