Newland - Eugene Adam Young, 80, of Cranberry Street, Newland, died
Thursday, March 24, 2005, at John A. Cannon Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of the late Arnold and Mollie McKinney Young and a native of
Mitchell County. He was a retired repairman with Burleson Plumbing, a
veteran of the United States Navy and a member of First Baptist Church in
Newland.

Survivors include his sister, Edna Sparks Greene of Elizabeth City;
brothers, Emmett Young and wife, Opal, of Drexel and Everett Young and wife,
Kate, of Bessemer City; stepdaughters, Lois Johnson and husband, Glenn, of
Mascoutah, Ill., and Tommie Curtis and husband, Wilbur, of Knoxville, Tenn.;
and several stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Burleson Young, wife,
Louise Bare, and brother, Elmo Young.

The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of
Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, Bakersville, with T.J. Robinson and Bill Jones
officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Entombment will follow at Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.
