Arthur W. Strathern

GILFORD — Arthur W. Strathern, 81, of 7 Ridgewood Ave., died at Frisbie
Memorial Hospital in Rochester, on Thursday, March 22, 2001.

Mr. Strathern was born Jan. 15, 1920 in Laconia, the son of Harry G. and
Edna (Thyng) Strathern. He was a resident of the Lakes Region most of
his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked 30
years for New England Telephone Co., retiring in 1980.

Mr. Strathern served on the Laconia City Council in the mid 1960s and
also served on the New Hampshire Fish and Game Commission from 1972 to
1976. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Laconia Lodge of Elks 876 and
was a life member. He volunteered for Hospice for a number of years.

Mr. Strathern was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Laconia-Gilford.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Vera (Edwards) Strathern of
Gilford; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna L. and Fire Chief Michael
Mooney of Gilford; two grandsons and their wives, Scott and Kim Lacasse
and Kevin and Kim Lacasse, all of Gilford; five great-grandchildren,
Trevor, Jeremy, Ashley, Justin, and Kyle; and nephews and nieces.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held in Union Cemetery, Laconia, later this
spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gilford Fire
Rescue Equipment Fund, 39 Cherry Valley Road, Gilford, NH 03249 or
Community Health & Hospice, 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.

Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, New
Hampshire is in charge of the arrangements.
