Thank you for the offer. Our Urbans came from Moravia to Texas and stayed
here. They didn't even go through NY so that did narrow things down some. We
now have them back in Moravia to the 1600's.
Believe me I am aware of how many Urbans there are and where they settled. The
name supposedly came from the latin of City Dweller and therefor, being from
latin, it is distributed widely in almost all Germanic areas. I have been
researching this line for 13 years. When I started, I didn't even know for sure
where they were from, originally. So I tried all the nations I could. Then,
found the birth certificate for a grandfather who came here from Moravia.
Later, I began doing some research for my son's friend. He did not know his
ancestry so we tried many more places. Finally located his ancestors in Italy.
I really was just teasing but will stick with the fact that Urbans, next to some
of the Western European names are very small pickins especially in the US. I
did one search in Eastern Ky and the search engine froze up. I believe that if
you did Moore, you would find something similar.
I wish I could help you. I have many family names in France and Alsace Loraine
but no Urbans. Many Czechs came through Alsace Loraine but not ours.
I am greatly intrigued by your family mystery and am looking forward to hearing
how it turns out. Do you have any idea when they immigrated? There certainly
are ways to find out. Of course, the longer ago it was the harder it is. Do
you know if they were French or German speaking? I have a few friends who are
working on that area and we go over it allot. If I can ever be of assistance,
just let me know.
Grins,
Kaye
