The Slavic word for blacksmith is "kovac'" from "kov," meaning metal. In several variations, it is a very common surname among various Slavic groups. The word was borrowed very early on by Magyar/Hungarians, so that it is also a very common surname among them. The Magyar spelling is "kovacs" (not "kovacz").

One of the surnames shown is Krivak; that surname means one who limps. If this is the same Julia, one of the surnames is either from an earlier marriage or is a family alias, an alternative surname.
