Mental Hospital case books are normally closed for 100 years. However,
it is sometimes possible for the proven next of kin to be given
information in records later than this, but you do have to apply to the
current holder - probably local Archives, possibly hospital's own
archives. Locating what exists and where is done through the
www.hmc.gov.uk/hospitals site (refining down either by place or actual
name of hospital
