Yesterday at the Scarborough Fair at the Wakefield stand, I bought a lovely little book called ' Thornes Park' by Richard Bell. (Willow Island editions )
This afternoon I've spent with my elderly parents recounting their memories of school days there when it was a school. The little sketches reminded them of so much that has not been mentioned before.A box of photos came out , names recalled etc etc It really proved to be 'a key to a treasure store'.Some details from 1930's

In the back other references are mentioned. A book called' Thornes House the story of a school' by Nora George
published in 1993. I wonder if anyone knows of this book ,where I could see it , buy it ?
Another book of more general interest Development of Wakefield in maps, plans, and views 1680-1926 was published in 1981 written by John Goodchild. I am very interested in seeing a copy.
I know people on this site have much local knowledge so I'm hoping for more enlightenment.

I also have a query about Morley Hall nr Morley. My brother was born there in 1944.Today we could not locate it on a map.It was used for a Maternity home at that time.Would love to know if it still exists and exact location ?
Can anyone help please?

If interested I can list a few names of teachers and pupils at Thornes High School.Anyone have relatives still around who went there ? We have a few group photos.
