Subject: [UK-CENSUS-HELPERS] Dealing with illegible entries
Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 13:53:03 +1000
Dear All,
A desperate plea on behalf of all checkers and validators - PLEASE, PLEASE,
PLEASE do NOT use XXX, question marks, brackets, parentheses or . when you
encounter illegible entries. Set the appropriate query flag in the correct
column (or in the case of required fields, enter the default hyphen for
names, relationships, 999 for age or UNK for the Chapman Code).
Use of blanks, x's, full stops, brackets, parentheses or question marks is
NOT an acceptable alternative and is NOT used in the FreeCEN
spreadsheet/transcriptions.
Removing all these illegal characters is SOOOO time-consuming, SOOOOOO
tedious and really slows down getting the transcription checked, validated
and online.
Warmest regards,
Terry Waters-Marsh
