Dear Judith,

The civil parish is identified on the Enumerators Description page - what is
written across the top of census pages may or may not be present and/or
accurate. When the piece goes through the checking process, the checker adds
the ecclesiastic parish name to the header and when the file is uploaded,
both the civil parish and the ecclesiastic parish are part of the header.

The village/hamlet information would have added another field and a
character limit which was considered at the time of creating the FreeCEN
structure as a cost not worth the marginal benefit. Bear in mind that what
appears online (for free) does cost the project a lot of money for server
usage and dedicated capacity. The decision was taken over a decade ago and
it is far to late to revisit at this stage of the project.

Does that answer your concern?

Warmest regards,

A question for the Co-ordinators please

Why does the header not include village/hamlet? If that was included it
would solve many of the problems that arise from transcribers/checkers
feeling
the need to add something to the address (or an address of some
description)
because the enumerator has put nothing but a schedule number and the
village/hamlet is some considerable distance from the stated civil parish.

regards
Judith
