My Ufford branch came to Canada from New York state in about 1891 - my great grandfather William Henry Ufford. He married Alice Elizabeth Cooper Campbell in 1893 in Kingston Ontario. They had 6 children (one died at age 6 weeks). Around 1910 William Henry seems to have disappeared. His family continued to live in Kingston, but he did not. There is a theory that he "ran off" to the US and married again, but I have no proof.
Does this tie in with anything you know?
