The 1983 Watauga Assoc. of Genealogists Bulletin ( I found a copy in my
local public library ) includes a copy of " Kirchen Book, St. James
Lutheran Church ". According to the article, these are the records of St.
James Lutheran Church, in Greene Co., Tn. They were translated from the
German by Goldene Burgner, a Greene Co. genealogist, who copyrighted the
records in 1964.
I'm not sure how early this church began, but do know it was prior to 1811,
given the dates on the pages that I copied from the article.
I don't know if your families were affiliated with this particular church or
not, but it couldn't hurt to check. At least it's in the right area at
about the right time, so maybe you'll have some luck.
My German families followed a similar route to yours, from Montgomery Co.,
Pa, to Frederick Co, Va, to Greene Co., Tn and finally to Knox Co., Tn. In
my case, I'm looking for Warnack, and Lohnes, Lonas, Lones.
