I have Mary J. Whitson marrying Henry Thomas Pitts on September 24, 1857. They have a son named Abner Carter Pitts who marries Mattie Myers. Henry Thomas Pitts parents are Abner Pitts and Lucinda Golding, daughter of Thomas Golding. Abner and Lucinda Golding Pitts are my great great grandparents. Henry Thomas Pitts grandparents are Amesa Pitts and Catherine Pitts Pitts. Amesa Pitts parents are Joseph Pitts and Ann Graham. Joseph Pitts parents are Henry Pitts and Hannah Collier. As to the Whitsons, I too have searched and hit a dead end. These families came from old Newberry County in SC. If one could assemble all the Nelsons, Popes, Davenports, Goldings, and Pitts ancestors from long ago for a question and answer session, many Lauderdale county genealogys could be solved
