List,
I am new to the list & live at Old Spencer Mill just across the county line
from Bon Aqua in Dickson Co. and am a descendant of Capt. John and Dolley
Cross Gordon (4x grandson). I have a website dedicated to Capt. Gordon who
was "Captain of the Spies" under then General Andrew Jackson. The site
contains family pictures and other historical info located at
http://gordonhouse.50megs.com . There is currently nothing on your website
concerning perhaps one of the very first men to live in the county while it
was still Chickasaw territory. He & his family operated the Duck River
Ferry on the Hickman/Maury Co. line just down from Shady Grove with
Chickasaw chief George Colbert. This spot remains today a rest stop on the
Natchez Trace Parkway with interpretive signage. The home has just
undergone repointing of the brick as part of the restoration process by the
National Parks Service that has finally begun again. I would very much
appreciate a link on the Hickman Co. USGenweb website if at all possible
for other family researchers.
Thank you for your time,
Bryan A. Sharp
