Gary,
I don't know who is working with who, but I think we are it. I am posting this to the Hardin County List---might get some interest?

I don't know if Absalom and Mary were married in Lawrenceburg Co. IN or TN, could be either? They were in Hardin County in 1860. ( I note you show a Mary Jane Guthrie in Davidson Co., TN in 1860 ?) My Martha J. Alexander Guthrie, b. 1838 was somewhere?

I live about 3 miles as the Crow flies from Saltillo, but on the opposite, east, side of the Tennessee River. In 1860 A. B. and Mary were living in my neighborhood.

1860 Census, Hardin Co., TN
1594 A. B. Joice 27 TN farmer 14th C. D.
Mary 20 TN
Levenia 5 TN
Louisa 2 TN

1598 H. S. Guthrie 44 NC farmer 14th C. D.
Elizabeth B. 37 TN
Benjamin F. 18 TN
William T. 17 TN
Elizabeth C. 14 TN
Ambros L. 12 TN
Susan F. 9 TN
Martha Golightly 5 TN
George W. Guthrie 4 TN
Margaret Golightly 2 TN

Due to the proxicimity of these two families, I suspect that Mary Joice is the daughter of H. S. and Elizabeth Guthrie. I also believe that Martha J. Alexander married a son of this couple. She had sons, William S., b. 1861 and David R. b. 1862/3. Do you have anything on H. S. Guthrie and his family?

David

Subject: GUTHRIE family info

To be very honest I have not spent a lot of time with the GUTHRIE family line. I have been working ISKE and GAREY. But I have a small GUTHRIE file, very small that is connected to my JOYCE line. Here is what I have found. Hope some of it helps. At least now I have someone else working the line along with me, or is it me with you. :)

1 - In my records that I got from my father I have Mary Jane being born 18 October 1839 at Murphyburg, Indiana and passing away on 28 January 1893 in Satillo, Hardin County, TN. She married Absalom B JOYCE on 9 July 1854 in Lawerence County, IN. You will notice that what my father has differs from the offical records. He says he got this from his Aunt before she passed away. There is a GUTHRIE family in that area of Indiana. Here is the data on that:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=connections&recno=21535

2- I found a Mary Jane GUTHRIE in the Illinios Public Land records. She bought 15,110 acres. The record is dated 29 November 1889. I do not know if this is our Mary Jane but I found it interesting especially if she is from Indiana.

3 - In the Tennessee marriage records (1851 - 1900) Mary Jane GUTHRIE is listed as marrying Absalom B JOCYE on 6 July 1854 in the county of Lawrence, TN. Notice that my father said Lawerence County, IN. and must be an error.

4 - In the Tennessee census records (1810-91) Mary Jane GUTHRIE is listed in the 1860 Federal census index. She was living in Davidson County, District 6, page 147, record #TNS5a708174.

5 - I found a Mary Jane GUTHRIE, daugther of William and Elizabeth. William and Elizabeth died in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana. William and Elizabeth had both been from Kentucky and moved to Indiana sometime around 1844. This needs to be checked out more.

According to this record Mary Jane had 7 brothers and sisters; John, Thomas, Fountain, an unnamed sister, Washington, Silas, and Franklin.

This is all I have of the GUTHRIE line. Like I said very little. What do you think?

Below are other persons looking for Guthrie family connections in Tennessee.
