Jess: I am receiving you well down here in Texas. You mentioned going to
Antarctica. Is it just a short trip or maybe a wintering over. I was Navy
and had a chance many years ago to volunteer for a wintering over but
decided it was a little to cold down there. I did know a Navy Captain
Hedbloom, Doctor, who went down for the wintering over I saw him back in
Pensacola in about six weeks and asked him he was back early. He said it
was cold down there and he thought of a way to get out early. One of the
main complaints the men had was the cold air hitting the metal fillings in
their mouth. He decide the way to correct that was to drill out all the
fillings and replace them with plastic. He was on the next plane north.
I also knew an old Antarctica explorer. A Capt.(later Adm) DUFEK. I
believe a mountain range is named for him down there. I served under him at
Kwajalien
during some H-Bomb test in the Pacific.
