Lewis, Mrs. Della Phifer

Mrs. H. N. Lewis Dies; Rites Held In Texas
Mrs. H. N. Lewis, daughter of Mrs. Maggie Phifer of Irving College, died at
her home in Olney, Texas, Sunday evening, following an extended illness.
She was 65. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 oclock at
the First Baptist Church in Olney and burial took place there. Mrs. Lewis,
the former Miss Della Phifer, native of Van Buren county, was born October
17, 1886. She was a daughter of the late James Phifer and Mrs. Phifer and
she had resided in Texas since her marriage to Mr. Lewis. She was a member
of theBaptist church. Survivors in addition to her husband and mother, are
three sons and one daughter; three brothers, Glenn Phifer, McMinnville,
Oliver Phifer, Chattanooga, and Marion Phifer, Oklahoma City, Okla; ond
sister, Mrs. Shirley Moffitt of Irving College.

O. B. Payne, 86, Merchant, Dies
Oata OBrian Payne, 86, Campaign merchant for over a quarter of a century,
died at his home Friday afternoon at 4:40 oclock. He had been ill a
year. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 oclock at the
Campaign Church of Christ. Allen Phy, minister of Central Church of Christ,
officiated and burial was in Fuston cemetery at Gath. Mr. Payne, native of
Bardwell County, Kentucky, was born August 15, 1865. He was a son of
Benjamin Payne and Amanda Paine Payne and he was married in 1895 to Miss
Hallie Locke. She survives. For a number of years Mr. Payne was in the
general mercantile business at Laurelburg in Van Buren County and he was
also engaged in the insurance business there. He had been at Campaign for
about twenty-five years where he operated a general store and took an
active interest in the affairs of the community. He was a member of the
Church of Christ, and the Masonic Lodge. Survivors, in addition to his
wife, is one son, T.H. Payne, Atlanta, Ga.; one son, T. H. Payne, Atlanta,
Ga., one daughter, Mrs. George F. Christenbery, Chattanooga; one brother,
Ben Payne, Hazel Green, Ala., and a sister, Mrs. Fannie Cope, Tyler,
Texas. Arrangements were in charge of Highs Funeral Home.

Grissom, Alfred Elisha

Retired Farmer Dies In Hospital
Alfred Elisha Grissom, retired Van Buren county farmer, died at Medical
Clinic Saturday morning at 9 oclock. Ill for a week, Mr. Grissom was 75
years of age. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 oclock at
the Spencer Church of Christ. Newton Gribble, the minister officiated and
burial was in Long cemetery. Mr. Grissom was a native of Van Buren county,
born May 21, 1887. He was a son of Easu Grissom and Permelia Johnson
Grissom and he was married to Miss Sallie Yates, in 1912. She survives. He
was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, he is
survived by two daughters, Mrs. Shurl Hunter, Sparta, and Miss Maude
Grissom, Spencer, one son, Woodrow Grissom, Murfreesboro, and one sister,
Mrs. Lucian Delon, Spencer. Also two grandchildren. High Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.

Morrison Community with the passing of Mrs Myrtle Lawrence last Wednesday
this community lost one of its finest and most beloved members. Since
girlhood she was a loyal member of the Methodist church and lived a
beautiful christian life till death. Always kind and gracious to all,
she was a perfect lady. Near out of town relatives called here by her
death were Clyde Lawrence of Glasgow, Ky., her son and wife, her sister,
Mrs. Nora Griswold of Miami, Fla., her brother D.W. Thaxton of Town Creek,
Ala., Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Tucker and Mrs. Billie Frye of Nashvill, Mrs.
Katheryn Stroupe of Decatur, Ala., and Wails Bradley, Ala.

Beard, Mrs. Silas

Daylight Community The Stewart community is greatly grieved by the sudden
and unexpected death of Mrs. Silas Beard. She and her husband had visited a
son only a short way off Saturday night and had returned and gotten in bed
when she suddenly became sick and in two minutes was dead. She lived at her
childhood home and well beloved and highly respected and will be missed,
not alone by the community, but by the church at Stewarts, where she was
a faithful and regular attendant.

Beasley, Joe D.

Joe D. Beasley, School Teacher, Dies Of Illness
Joe D. Beasley, a teacher in the Warren County schools for several years,
World War II Army officer and a well known resident of the seventh
district, died at Lively Heights Nursing Home Thursday afternoon at 1: 50
oclock, after a prolonged illness. He was 47. Funeral services were
conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:30 oclock at Armstrong Church of Christ,
following a prayer service at the chapel of High Funeral Home at 1:30
oclock. Officiating was Rev. R.L. Benton, minister of the First Methodist
Church, and burial was in Armstrong cemetery. Mr. Beasley, native of
Overton county, was born September 15, 1904. His parents were George S.
Beasley, Warren county farmer, and Della Eubank Beasley and he was married
June 11, 1936 to Miss Lucille Hughes. She survives. Prior to World War
II, Mr. Beasley was vocational agriculture and science teacher at Central
high school here and as a Reserve Army officer, he entered military service
shortly after the outbreak of World War II. During extended Army duty he
saw combat action in the Pacific theater of operations. Returning from
military duty, Mr. Beasley became vocational agriculture instructor at
Irving College high school, a position he held until ill health forced his
retirement. In addition to his teaching duties, he operated a farm in the
seventh district. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the American
Legion. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by one son,
Joe Hughes Beasley, McMinnville; two sisters, Mrs Firm Lusk and Miss
Euereathea Beasley, both of McMinnville. Arrangements were by High Funeral
Home.

Amos C. Biles Dies Friday
Amos C. Biles, retired carpenter and well known McMinnville citizen, died
in a Nashville hospital Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock. He had been in ill
health for four years. he was 75 years of age. Funeral services were
conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at West Riverside Church of
Christ. The minister, J.R. Bailey, officiated and burial was in MT View
cemetery. Mr. Biles was a native of Warrren county, born July 28,
1876. His parents were Thomas Biles and Syrelda Medley Biles and on
October 31 1900 he was married to Miss Lucinda Lynn. She died June 7,
1947. Mr. Biles was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by
one son, Marcus Biles, McMinnville; three brothers, Ebb Biles, Stratford,
Oklahoma, Thomas Biles, Hazel Green Alabama and James Biles, Viola; one
sister, Mrs. Mary Marrow, Hazel Green, Alabama.. High Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.

Thrower Rites Held Sunday
Leroy Northcutt Thrower, 47, died at the home of his father, James T.
Thrower, on Edison street, Saturday morning at 8:30 oclock. He had been in
ill health for several years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon
at 3:30 oclock at the Thrower home. Rev. Geddes Orman, minister of Main
Street Presbyterian Church, officiated and burial was in Riverside
cemetery. A native of McMinnville, Mr. Thrower was born May 10, 1904. He
was a son of James T. And Mary Emeline Stubblefield Thrower and was
married to Miss Mamie Tanner May 10, 1935. She survives. He was a member
of the Presbyterian Church. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by
two sons, Clarence Nelson Thrower and James Andrew Thrower, McMinnville;
two brothers, Anderson Thrower and Logan Thrower, McMinnville; three
sisters, Mrs. C.L. Gazaway, Folly Beach, S.C. Mrs. F.E. Swain, Royal, N.C.
and Mrs. W.W. Bradley, Lenior City, Tenn. High Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.

Mr. Hendrickson, 83, Dies At Watertown
Elijah Hendrixson, 83-year-old retired farmer and father of Ed
Hendrickson, McMinnville automotive dealership employee, died at his home
at Watertown Monday morning at 2 oclock following an illness of several
weeks. Funeral services and burial took place at Watertown Tuesday. Mr.
Hendrickson was a native of Dekalb county but had lived in Wilson county
for the past 40 years. He was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors,
in addition to his son, is his wife Mrs. Betty Barbee Hendrickson; four
other sons, one daughter, four other sons, one daughter, four brothers and
two sisters
