I am looking for descendants of Jesse G. Taylor, born in Ohio, lived in
Belmont Co., Ohio & WISCONSIN . I have reason to believe that he later
lived in Crawford County, Arkansas with a second family, while his first
family remained in Wisconsin. I would like to hear from anyone with
knowledge of either of these families.

FACT:

1. December 19, 1826, a marriage license was issued to Jessie Taylor and
comfort Jarrett, signed, permission of fathers, Isaac Jarrett and James
Taylor. They were married December 26, 1826 in Belmont County, Ohio,
Smith Township.

2. 1850 census shows Jesse and Comfort Taylor with children: William,
Isaac, John J., Josephus, Thomas, Mary A., Aaron and Jesse, living in Union
county, Ohio. In 1860 this family has migrated to Wisconson. JESSE G.
TAYLOR is head of household in 1860. Comfort Taylor and some of the
children are found there in 1870 & 1880. I believe that Jesse G. Taylor did
not die in Wisconsin, but is the same Jesse Taylor found in Arkansas in 1870
His full name was JESSE GRANDVILLE TAYLOR per family knowledge.

3. In 1859 a marriage license was issued to James S. Taylor and Elizabeth
Dobbins in Union County, Ohio. They are later found in Blemont County,
Ohio.

4. Flora Ellen Taylor, daughter of Jesse Taylor and Elizabeth R. Dobbins
Taylor was born around this time in Union County, Ohio - per death
certificate and personal family knowledge.

5. The 1860 census shows a James and Elizabeth Taylor, ages 72 & 21,
living in Belmont County, Ohio, Smith Township. The children are Flora, 2
yrs, and Josephus, 7 months. They are living in the household of a Jessie
and Mary Taylor, ages 70 & 53.

6. The 1870 Crawford County, Arkansas census shows Jesse Taylor 64 b. Ohio,
E. R. Taylor 29 b. Ohio, Children: F.E. (Flora Ellen) 11 b. Ohio, J.S.
(Josephus) 10 b. Ohio, E.C. (Elizaberth Catherine 3, b. Kansas, and
J.U.S. (Jesse Jr. 1 b. Arkansas.

7. On July 28, 1869 Jesse Grandville Taylor filed Homestead Application
No. 2597 in Crawford County, Arkansas. This is where Jesse Taylor died
between 1874 and 1880.

8. My mother, was raised by Flora E. Taylor Barber, and Elizabeth C.
Taylor Atkisson, following the death of their sister, my grandmother, Mary
E. Taylor Flynn. Flora and Elizabeth told of how two of their brothers had
died young. Their names were Josephus and Jesse. They had a younger
brother, Elisha Anthony Wayne Taylor. I knew him as "Uncle Lish". He was
in the grocery business for many years in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

9. Aunt Flora was married three times. First to Layfayette Scantlin,
second to an Unknown Sprague, and third to Curtis Barber.

FAMILY TRADITION

1. Jessie Taylor had another family before he married Elizabeth Dobbins.
He came to Arkansas from WISCONSIN. His full name was JESSE GRANDVILLE
TAYLOR.

2. He was said to be a very "private" person.

3. He was a "doctor" and took Aunt Flora with him when he went to tend
people. Aunt Flora's skills in delivering babies and preparing people for
burial were said to have come from him. (I do not believe he was a
"bonified" doctor. His great-grandson, Ernest Taylor, tried, but found no
evidence of it. However, he may have practiced medicine, as many unlicensed
people did in those times.)

4. After the Civil War soldiers came to look for Jesse. The story was told
by Aunt Flora who was a little girl at the time. She said he hid under the
floor.

5. Jessie Taylor buried gold on his farm in Crawford County, Arkansas. He
could not remember where he buried it, and looked for it often before he
died.

6. Jesse James spent the night at the Taylor's farm in Crawford County,
Arkansas. The next morning he left money under Aunt Lizzie's plate.

7. Aunt Flora was on a train that was robbed by Jesse James. He took her
purse, but gave it back to her. She had hidden most of her money in
her hair.
