Perhaps you meant 1873 instead of 1853? Or perhaps the index is incorrect. There's an index record of George DEMOSS married to Margaret E TABER on 28 Mar 1873 in Martin Co., IN

Book 3, page 210

There's a cross index of Margaret E TABER married to George DEMOSS on that same date (1873), so I suspect the index is correct.
