Hi Ralph, you cannot tell if the Windr*ms were in Ireland in this timeframe using this book. This book contains two out of many sources. If you want to find out when they came to Ireland you need to do far more than ask for a lookup in the book. One way to start is check all three volumes of O'Hart "Irish Pedigrees" (free at google books). Vol 3 is particularly important to search because it abstracts information from documents that were later destroyed in the Four Courts Fire. Ain't no other way to get much of that info now. It includes the names of families who were sent to Connacht. Some were not Irish but English Jacobites. Also IDs men known to have come with Cromwell (ie soldiers).

Also they could have been in Ireland since Noah and they would not be in this book. I mention this because.... lad, you got bigger problems than figuring out when they came. Checking MacLysaght "The SUrnames of Ireland" says for Wyndham (which has the same sound as Wyndrum) -- Aristocratic English name that is an occasional synonym of Mulgeehy. In Galway gaeltacht it is called Gaoithin. See Wynne...

Okay... Wynne is akin to Welsh Gwynn and is also synonym for several Irish names containing the sound ge (as in gaoithe, of wind). Ie MacGee, Geehan, Mulgeehy. Mulgeehy is a Donegal name that has been almost superceded by Wynn or occasionally Wyndham due to the world gaoth, wind, embodied in the surname.

You need a DNA test. If you just want your Y chromo tested, order a 67 marker from www.familytreeDNA.com. For a little more you can get your mito and some amount of your other DNA sequenced at www.23andme.com. That'll give you your mother's line back to, who knows -- could be anywhere (mine is Middle Eastern, for example), and lots of health related info, like if you are at a higher risk for organ rejection and your inherited risks of developing various conditions. Probably no surprises if you have a good family history, though learning I did have a higher risk for organ rejection was good. Probably my brother does too and so he was smart to decline a liver (we got bad liver genes) a few years ago. He sought alternative treatments which are working so far. However you can also possibly find cousins too.

No hits in the book. If I were you, though you may have already done this, research English Windroms and where they settled in Ireland. Hopefully not in Donegal. I would assume most in Donegal would be Irish. If your DNA is Irish, probably Donegal or nearby is the source. Or maybe you know where yours are already. If yours were Irish and "out" in the Rising, they were probably not using the English version of the name but the Irish. They might be named in the depositions, name badly mangled by English scribes. The depositions are free, on line.

Linda,
I'm curious to know if the Windr*ms had come to Ireland in this timeframe.
Could you perchance check the name?
Thanks
Ralph
