Linda,
Yes this looks good, but, why did they start at 1791? I know you do not
know.
My ancestors come over well before that, the first born was in SC in 1775.
Sure hope they (IFHF) can find earlier data.
The IFHF are doing a great job, and their emails are very interesting.

Thanks,
David C Abernathy

Subject: [S-I] Indexes to Irish Passenger lists from Centre for Migration
Studies, Omagh, Co. Tyrone

Hi folks, an email from the Irish Family History Foundation
(www.rootsireland.ie), the people who have put the free indexes to the Irish
church records on line, announced yesterday:

" The Irish Family History Foundation's Online Research Service (ORS) is
pleased to announce the availability of a new source of records. The Centre
for Migration Studies , Omagh, Co. Tyrone, has provided over 227,000 names
of Ship Passengers .
The records are of passengers, mostly of Irish origin, on ships travelling
from Irish and British ports to ports in North America (United States and
Canada) from 1791 to 1897 .

Just go to the following site and login using your existing IFHF login
details.
http://cms.rootsireland.ie "

You can get an IFHF login in FREE. You just create yourself an account. You
can search indexes FREE. To view the actual record costs money. However
considering the only way to get these records before was travel to Ireland,
hire someone in Ireland, or in the case of the county church records, send
off money while praying constantly for months that the organization will
send some results, it is a good deal.

However I've seen a lot of people complain on various lists. Generally their
problem is they don't know how to narrow a search down to the probable
record they want. I'll try to find an article on how to narrow down
searches. It largely depends on what you already know.

Happy hunting!

Linda Merle
