Google "Black Irish" and read carefully the rather full genetic
information on Black Irish. The Black Irish are descendents of Iberian (Spanish and
Portugese) individuals who settled in the west of Ireland, north to south
including Donegal.

In a statistical survey of the _Irish_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_people) carried out by Mr. C. Wesley Dupertuis in the 1940s under the
endorsement and guidance of The Division of Anthropology of _Harvard
University_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_University) , based on some 10,000
adult males, the following information was gathered and so
documented._[16]_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Irish#cite_note-15)
The hair color of the Irish is predominantly _brown_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_hair) . Less than 3% have _black_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hair) or ashen hair; 40% have dark brown hair. Medium brown hues
make up another 35%. Persons with _blond_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blond) and light brown hair account for close to 15%, while approximately 10%
have _auburn_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auburn_hair) or _red hair_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hair) . Both golden and dark brown shades
can be seen in the southwestern counties of _Ireland_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland) , but fairest hair in general is most common in the Central
Plain._[17]_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Irish#cite_note-16)
_Ulster_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulster) has been evidenced to have the
highest frequencies of red hair with the lowest found in _Wexford_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wexford) and _Waterford_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterford) .
In further examining pigmentation characteristics (both as a whole and
regionally), studies have indicated the Irish are 'almost uniquely pale skinned
when unexposed, untanned parts of the body, are observed' and '40% of the
entire group are _freckled_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freckles) to
some extent.' Moreover, 'in the proportion of pure light eyes', data shows
that '_Ireland_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland) competes successfully
with the blondest regions of _Scandinavia_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavia) ,' as approximately 42% of the Irish population have blue eyes.
Another 30% have been found to possess light-mixed eyes and 'less than 1
half of 1% have pure brown.'
The complete results of this survey have been condensed and arranged in the
Harvard Anthropometric Laboratory (formerly under the close supervision of
_Professor Earnest A. Hooton_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earnest_Hooton) ) with the cooperation of both governments in Ireland.
