Hi Richard!
I was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland...and have never heard
the word scone, pronounced any other way than with a "short" o.
As for the Stone of Scone?...to my knowledge....that has always
been pronounced with a "long" o [as in stone]
Different Areas of Scotland....have different
dialects....therefore...different pronunciations.
Cathy

My Irish grandmother was born and raised in Scotland (Glasgow area); she
came to the US in 1920. She way she pronounced it was "scones as in bones"
