I was so thrilled to see those Carolina Cradle maps I missed that it was a limited preview from the 1964 edition, which Doug pointed out to me. Still many pages and much information, and searchable.
You don't have to sign up or anything.
Go here
http://books.google.com/
and just put in the search box what you're looking for - title, author or subject. Click on a match in the list that pops up and the book title page should appear with options on your right for searching, other references and info.
If it's a limited preview, you only get to see some of the book. Full (usually out of copyright) you get to read the whole thing online by scrolling down. Others, you just get information on how to buy it, maybe the Table of Contents and the author, etc.

Hi Sally,
Could you help me? I signed up for the Google. Is it possible to read
pages of the books on line?....for some I saw a one liner but nothing for
others. Could you tell me what I'm not doing?
Thanks
Ellen
