Hi Betty,

Thanks for your interesting response.
We held a McDonald family reunion in 1989 at the old Kerr's farm boarding
house property with more than 100 direct descendants of the original
settlers attending from across Canada. Henry McDonald and his wife Esther
McCormick who came from Ireland about 1823-27. Esther was born and raised a
city girl in Dublin. This was all written up with photos in THE WATCHMAN, a
town of Lachute weekly newspaper, October 16th, 1989. my dad, William John
Henry McDonald, was a great grandson of the original settlers, Henry and
Kerr's farm was on the original grant to a James Kerr -lot 9a & 9b Conc VI
with extensive frontage on Lac Hugh to the north.
I also have another John Kerr settler on lot 10a Conc IV.
And I see your ancestors, Patrick Kerr lot- 11b, and William Henderson lot -
8a, both on Concession II.

I wonder if you happen to know the names of ships at that time, or any
passenger lists from Ireland in the 1820-1830 window?

Best regards,

Hi Keith,

The KERR / HENDERSON family group which arrived in "the former Township of
Gore" in 1823 -- are my ancestors ! Patrick and Elizabeth (KERR?) KERR
and William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON through their children born there in

There is a List for "the former Township of Gore" which has existed for
maybe 4 years, and there is a lot of information in the archives of the
List. The area is now where Lakefield and Lachute are now.

And, there is information on them in the archives of the Quebec List, as
many of them moved over to Compton County or other areas in Quebec.

An FYI is that last week I was approved to start up another new List. I

thought originally should be for Argenteuil County, but then I found out
many of the counties north of the St. Lawrence River are grouped into
municipalities. A little investigating showed that that area is part of
the Laurentian Mountain range, so I thought that should be a title for a new

List. But, then I found out there is a Message Board, called Laurentides.

So, I thought a new List should have the same title.

I haven't had time to set up the new List, yet, but people should be able to

subscribe to it. I can provide the information page .. later !

There is a web site providing a data basae for the KERR / HENDERSON family
group and their descendants. The URL for it is in the archives of the
above Lists. I must go out this morning (need to BUNDLE UP first), so
I'll have to offer more details later.

By the way, most researchers believe these KERR / HENDERSON's came from
County Sligo, Ireland. Probably in the northern part of the County,
possibly in the Calry Parish.

(The other new List I started up last February is:

(And, I might take over the GAVIN surname List; unless someone else wants

to do it.)
(My husband's ancestors.)
