Hi Linda,
You wrote about the McCamey family and a Allisons.
These Scots-Irish families are part of my wife's ancestry. James W. McKemey,
born 1787 in Franklin County, PA, married Martha Alison, born at
Chambersburg March 19, 1793. Their son was Joseph Alison McKemey, born March
27, 1815 in Washington County, PA.
Joseph A. McKemey died in PA, but his wife Martha Alison McKemey is buried
in St. Louis, Missouri. I imagine one of their children had moved there.
Martha Alison was the daughter of Joseph Alison, born in Little Britian
Township, Lancaster, PA and An Cooper born in Coopertown, Lancaster, Pa. The
father of this Joseph Alison was also named Joseph Alison and he had married
a Fulton. I have not traced out this generation.
Joseph A. McKemey married Cynthia Hemphill, a member of another old
Scots-Irish family. They eventually settled in Fairfield, Iowa after a stay
in Ohio. As usual, there is a constellation of these Scots-Irish families,
probably members of the same congretation, moving together--McKemey,
Hemphill, Moorehead, Wilson etc. They seem to have chosen the westward route
for lands--first Ohio, then Iowa.
I have more details. If you or anyone wants them, I will post to this list.
If anyone knows more about these families, please post.
