Unfortunately, the requests I have had for NEHGS lookups have
not taken into account the nature of the online resources. MOST
of the materials held by the NEHGS are NOT online and those that
are online are mostly just index and page numbers for sources where
you can find records. The online sources tend to be pre-1800 and
only for the older sections of New England.
The value of NEHGS is its lending library, available to members.
They have many well sourced family histories and a huge collection
which circulates. Their books and periodicals collection is without
comparison.
I am withdrawing my offer to do lookups and offering the following
advice for those with New England ancestors (1) Join NEHGS
and get their catalog ($$) (2) Make good use of the USGenWeb
site for the county and town records, as well as the many fine
volunteers who will do local lookups. (3) Learn to use Google
to do name searches "firstname lastname" +locality (4) Join
the mailing list for your county of interest and/or post to their
message board.
I'm sorry that I was only able to really help one of the people
who asked, and that was because her relatives lived in an area
of old Connecticut which has been transcribed and posted
online in several places.
Regards,
Sharyn
